Great class for those who have practiced some kind of yoga before.

YIN Yoga targets the connective tissues and joints of the body in a deep way.  It’s a slow-paced style of Yoga with seated postures that stretch connective tissue, the ligaments and fascia that bind bone-to-bone at the joints.  Connective tissue does not stretch like muscle and takes more time to improve mobility and strength.  For this reason, the room is warmed with infra-red heating panels and postures are held for longer periods of time.  Uplifting music and soft lighting are often incorporated to further calm the mind and release the spiritual potential this practice offers.

Enjoy the feelings of openness, rejuvenation and steadiness that arise from a Yin Yoga practice.  It aims to improve the natural range of motion of joints, while cleansing the pathways of vitality in the body.  It is a perfect complement to more dynamic forms of Hatha Yoga.

Each class will include a sequence designed to nourish a particular meridian organ pair (such as lung - large intestine, kidney - urinary bladder, liver – Gall Bladder).  The specific subtle body anatomy of the Chinese Meridian Theory is integrated with the ancient teachings of Indian Hatha Yoga.  The aim is to directly affect the distribution, movement and quality of Chi (life force or prana) through the meridians to improve the health of associated organs.  As such, disharmony in the body may be alleviated by eliciting the body’s natural healing response.  As the whole-body rests, the natural healing power of Chi or Prana is used to rejuvenate and repair the area of focus.

Yin is a great class for beginners, as the classes are relaxed, and one is supposed to let gravity do most of the work and feel amazing afterwards.  Also great for athletes wanting to protect and strengthen the joints.  It also helps one to understand their own body’s resistance while in the poses.
